We’ve reviewed each dress based on fit, fabric, length, style, coverage, price, and features like built-in shorts, pockets, and more. Check out our reviews of the best tennis skirts to go with any tops you already have.

#1 – Adidas Spring Club Dress

The Spring Club Dress by Adidas is an easy go-to dress that will look great on most. This dress has a fitted top and a semi-fitted skirt which makes it easy to move across the court. The racerback silhouette is also great for swinging freely at the tennis ball. This dress has a sporty feel while also feeling slightly feminine with the flowy skirt.

I love that Adidas is making most of its clothes with 100% recycled materials. The AEROREADY moisture-wicking material is also a benefit to keeping you dry while playing in the heat. The other benefit of buying dresses from Adidas is that they include matching ball shorts. It’s tough to beat a dress that’s reasonably priced and also includes shorts.

  • Fit: Fitted top, semi-fitted skirt
  • Length: 32 inches from shoulder to hem (size S)
  • Features: Matching ball shorts
  • Colors: Multiple
  • Price: $

Pros

  • Made of breathable material
  • Includes matching ball shorts
  • Suitable for most body types
  • 100% recycled materials

Cons

  • No built-in bra

#2 – Vuori Women’s Volley Dress

Vuori is becoming more popular in the tennis world. With new styles for tennis players, including dresses, skirts, and tops, you can now buy this brand on Tennis Warehouse. The Vuori Volley Dress uses their BreatheInterlock performance stretch fabric. This fabric is soft to the touch while also providing good coverage. It is thicker than most dry-fit materials but is not too heavy. This dress feels very durable and will hold up to wears and washes.

At first, I was concerned about wearing a sports bra with this dress, since the dress has almost a Y-cut top. However, this dress does have a built-in bra with removable cups for washing and provides medium support.

Overall this dress provides good coverage. It’s not too tight but you also don’t feel like you are wearing a trash bag. This dress easily transitions from the court to running errands or even getting brunch with friends. The pockets are not the best at holding tennis balls while playing, but they are handy for holding your phone or keys while you are out with friends. I also love the classic look of the dress with the solid color and white piping around the edges.

  • Fit: Semi-fitted
  • Length: 34 inches
  • Features: Pockets, built-in bra
  • Colors: Multiple
  • Price: $$

Pros

  • Good coverage
  • Built-in bra with removable cups
  • Made with durable fabric
  • Perfect for on and off the court

Cons

  • Pockets are not deep enough to hold tennis balls
  • Not ideal for bigger chested players due to Y cut top

#3 – EleVen Collegiate Dress

This brand was founded by former No. 1 tennis player, Venus Williams. It is quickly becoming more popular on the court and known for its unique feminine styles.

This dress features a breathable mesh neckline, fitted torso, and relaxed flowy skirt. The waist is accentuated with a stretchy band that adds a pop of color. While the fabric on this dress is thin, it does provide UPF 50 sun protection and is also made with anti-microbial fabric to help deter stains.

This dress is a fun and flirty twist that is not commonly seen with bigger brands. I would take extra care with washing and storing this dress, as the mesh might stretch and the skirt does have a raw hem. It will provide a fun addition to your tennis wardrobe.

  • Fit: Fitted torso, relaxed skirt
  • Length: 32.5” shoulder to hem (size M)
  • Features: UPF 50 sun protection
  • Colors: Multiple
  • Price: $$

Pros

  • Breathable mesh neckline
  • UPF 50 sun protection
  • Anti-microbial fabric to fight stains
  • Made of at least 75% recycled materials

Cons

  • Bodice is slightly see-through
  • No built-in bra
  • Does not include ball shorts
  • Durability could be an issue

#4 – Tail Essential Coletta Dress

The Coletta Dress by Tail provides good coverage and has 5 different colors to choose from. It is semi-fitted throughout, which is a plus for the body-conscious tennis player.

The scooped neck and racerback features allow for ease of movement across the tennis court. The mesh panel at the center of the back provides breathability. The fabric is UPF 50+ which is always a plus when you’re out playing in the sun.

The pleats at the bottom of the dress add a nice feminine touch without being a cause of distraction during a tennis match. I felt that this dress ran slightly big, so I would recommend sizing down if you are wanting a more fitted look.

  • Fit: Semi-fitted
  • Length: 31” from shoulder to hem (size S)
  • Features: UPF 50+ sun protection
  • Colors: Multiple
  • Price: $$

Pros

  • UPF 50+ sun protection
  • Available in multiple colors
  • Semi-fitted throughout
  • Good coverage

Cons

  • No built-in bra
  • Does not include ball shorts
  • Pleats do add some weight to the dress

#5 – Asics Spring Match Dress

If you’re planning on playing in the sun, then the Asics Spring Match Dress is for you. The small collar provides sun protection along the back of your neck and is made of a mesh material that is very breathable.

Overall, this dress is very lightweight with a sporty look. It is fitted in the torso and semi-fitted in the skirt. I would say this dress is best for on the court rather than off. An extra plus is that it comes with matching ball shorts.

  • Fit: Fitted torso, semi-fitted skirt
  • Length: 31” from shoulder to hem (size S)
  • Features: Matching ball shorts
  • Colors: Multiple
  • Price: $$

Pros

  • Made of lightweight mesh material
  • Good sun protection
  • Matching ball shorts provided

Cons

  • This dress is shorter than others
  • Limited color options

#6 – Lacoste Classic Tennis Dress

This timeless tennis dress from Lacoste is a classic. An all-white dress with a fitted top and pleated skirt, it can go in anyone’s tennis dress collection. The infamous Lacoste green is seen throughout with the piping on the dress as well as the built-in ball shorts.

The top is fitted and semi see through. The top zips up, making it easy to take on and off. The skirt is pleated, allowing for easy movement while on the court. Built-in shorts are loved by some but not all. It does depend on your body type and if they fit you properly. They are convenient since you won’t have to keep up with this extra accessory, but they can be a nuisance when taking a quick restroom break.

  • Fit: Fitted torso, pleated skirt
  • Length: 30” from shoulder to hem (size 36/4)
  • Features: Built-in ball shorts
  • Colors: White
  • Price: $$$

Pros

  • Classic tennis style
  • Easy zip-up top
  • Built-in tennis shorts

Cons

  • Limited sizing
  • Top is sheer

#7 – Nike Core Club Dress

The Nike Core dress is sporty with lots of style. The fitted top has a keyhole in the back that transitions into a flowy semi-fitted skirt.

Not only does this style of dress easily go from on court to off, but the added pockets can hold tennis balls as well as your phone and accessories. The Dri-FIT material is sure to keep you dry even on the hottest days.

  • Fit: Fitted torso, semi-fitted skirt
  • Features: Built-in pockets
  • Colors: Black and White
  • Price: $$

Pros

  • Made of Dri-FIT material
  • Classic style
  • Good for both on and off court

Cons

  • This dress is very popular and you might have to wait for your size to come back in stock
  • Limited color options
  • No ball shorts or built-in bra provided

Buyer’s Guide: How to Choose a Tennis Dress

There are lots of styles and options of tennis dresses out there so it’s important to narrow down what you are looking for.

Here are several questions you’ll need to answer when choosing a tennis dress.

Different Features of a Tennis Dress

A-Line: The type of dress that’s fitted at the top and more flowy at the bottom is flattering on most body types. It’s a classic style that easily transitions on and off court.

Pleated Dress: This classic feature of women’s tennis clothing has lasted the test of time. It’s a great statement piece for any tennis match.

UV Protection: This feature is very important to consider if you are planning to play a lot of tennis outside. It’s an added bonus to a dress that can put your mind at ease.

Waistband: Adding a waistband to a dress gives it a sporty-feminine look. It’s a small feature that can add lots of style.

Do You Want a Dress For On Court, Off Court, or Both?

This is a very important question to ask yourself when looking at tennis dresses. Many can easily transition to many different settings, but some dresses have extra features that benefit one or the other.

While pockets seem like they would be beneficial for both on and off court, it’s important to determine if they are deep enough for a tennis ball or just your cell phone. Some dresses that are retro might be too overbearing for a casual brunch.

Do You Want Pockets, Built-in Ball Shorts, or Neither?

This feature really comes down to your body type. It’s a great all-in-one feature but it can be hard for those of us with shorter or longer torsos. There is also the awkward complete undressing when going to the bathroom. If the built-in shorts work for you, it is nice to not have to worry about packing those ball shorts.

What’s Your Budget?

Tennis dresses can range from $50 – $250. With a wide range, it’s easy to find a dress within your price range that fits your needs. Typically, higher priced dresses have more durable fabric that will last longer. If you are on a budget, consider looking at styles from last season that are on sale.

The Best Tennis Dress Brands

These are some of the most popular brands for tennis dresses.

  • Nike
  • Adidas
  • Vuori
  • EleVen
  • Fila
  • Asics
  • Lacoste
  • LIJA

How Can I Find the Tennis Dresses that Professional Players Wear on TV?

If you see your favorite professional player wearing a dress on TV and want to purchase it, you might be able to find it on Tennis Warehouse.

Some but not all tennis dresses worn by pro players are available for sale to the general public. For example, many of Serena Williams’ dresses in the past were not available. However, each brand has their own seasonal dresses that are usually available.

Conclusion: Our Pick for the Best Tennis Dress Overall

Our top pick for overall best tennis dress is the Adidas Spring Club Dress.

Adidas has several budget friendly dresses and they all come with ball shorts. This dress is great for most body styles and transitions easily on and off the court. I also love Adidas’ effort to use sustainable materials in their clothing.
