Overview

Value hunters looking for a comfortable multifilament with above average control and spin potential have come to the right place. Constructed with an army of ultra flexible filaments Velocity MLT offers an arm- friendly feel with low vibration and minimal shock on off-center hits. Unlike Head Reflex MLT, Velocity's filaments are bonded with a PA resin, which is firmer than the polyurethane resin used in the majority of premium multifilaments. To further enhance control, Velocity's core is surrounded by 30 thicker filaments. As a result, Velocity is slightly firmer and more control-oriented than the average multi, making it easier for the player to swing big and load the ball with pace and spin. Head also adds a special low-friction coating to boost durability. All in all, this is a great option for non string breakers who want a comfortable multi with above average control and spin-potential.

Try this 1.30mm version for more durability and control than the 1.25mm version.

  • Length: 40ft/12m
  • Composition: Multifilament - 1,000 filaments and an outerwrap of 30 filaments bonded with a firm PA resin, with a low-friction additive in the coating

Best affordable multi with control and spinGreat multi to play with on a full bed if you are looking for control and spin from the comfort a multi offers. Also, a great multi to hybrid with a round poly with a lot of snap back. It adds a whole lot of weight and power to it without compromising too much on control. Great string and very affordable for being a multi.

Great strings to start withAfter doing some research on strings, I opted to prioritize tension maintenance and comfort as a starting point while getting back into tennis. The Head Velocity MLT has been great in my Babolat Pure Strike 16x19 and Head Speed MP for the first few months of lessons and recreational play. No issues with tennis elbow and pretty great feel on most strokes. I've discovered that it's lacking a bit in the spin department with the strings getting stuck out of position after a heavy rally. My 100% power forehands sometimes miss the baseline by about a foot. And if I take a bit of power off, then my shots become kind of inconsistent... some in the net and some floaters that my opponents can crush. These are not the right strings if you're looking for consistency with your full swing. That's why I'm planning on experimenting with some soft polyesters next. Final thoughts: If you're looking for some comfortable strings that have great feel and power, then you should definitely give the Head Velocity MLT a try! If you're looking for consistency, durability, and spin, then you might want to look into a poly.

Good string.I was brokenhearted that FXP was taken off the market so I tried Velocity. Good string at a good price. Not quite the ball pocketing of FXP but good string at a good price.

The best multifilament out thereThis is my favorite multifilament and plays closest to a poly string without compromising your arm/wrist. I was coming off a bad wrist injury and switched to multifilament strings. I tried out many strings, notably the Wilson NXT Soft. I can confidently say that the Velocity MLT strings play much better than Wilson. More power and spin. Now I know why these strings are so popular.

The best multi cross string for hybridsVelocity MLT 16 gets my vote for the best cross string to use in hybrids with a poly main. It holds tension like a champ; it's durable (15-20 hours before it breaks); it promotes snapback better than most; it notches the mains less than most. Vastly better for this purpose than any syngut that I have tried; vastly softer than any soft poly I have tried. Sure, natural gut has more power and better feel but the cost and lack of durability of gut are downers. Sure, Wilson NXT has better feel (just a bit), but I'll fray it immediately and snap it in 5 hours. Sure, Gamma Glide is snappier/spinnier for the first hour, but Glide becomes sticky fast, whereas Velocity keeps on truckin'. Gosen AK is equal to Velocity but Velocity is cheaper. I haven't tried 'em all but I've tried dozens, and Velocity is the best I have found for a rec player who needs a durable hybrid cross.

Solid multi with spin and controlHave tried most all the top multi-filaments and they either start to fray too soon or they lose their tension quickly, or both. The Head Velocity multi-filament is and has excellent CONTROL with great feel on drop shots or shot angles. It surprised me to find it had good grip for spin shots as well. Whether it’s slice, back spin or top spin or side spin it does very well on each kind you want to do. This string also has for me NO fraying as it holds its tension well. When you need it you have plenty of power to hit all out when needed. I play doubles twice a week and singles three to four times a week also and this string lasts me a good two months on two racquets going back and forth between them easily. I play with a Head PWR Instinct 115. With this oversized head I string my racket at 57lbs. both mains and crosses. This string has performance and control with spin and great touch with strong durability. I use to be a Babolat Rough string player but the poly doesn’t stay soft long enough for me now and this Head Velocity is soft on your arm and shoulder! Great string also for the price. I’m a super senior player 4.0 - 4.5 level player. It is worth at least giving this string a try to see if it’s for you as well.

geratI am recovering from tennis elbow. I put this in my Yonex Vcore 100 at 55 lbs. It felt stiff at first but it could be my elbow hesitant to hit to avoid pain. After I got used to it I like the feel, control and decent spin. It has decent spin for multi. I don't feel the elbow pain much anymore with velocity. I am looking forward to hybrid it with Solinco Confidential when I fully recover.

Very good for priceVery good for its price; even after about 10 hours hitting for a multi; has less feel than NRG2 but so far no fraying or drop in playability. Not as good as natural gut of course.

Excellent if you have elbow and/or wrist painTry this string before you buy a new racquet! It turned a racquet that was uncomfortable and unplayable with a poly into a very comfortable and playable racquet. The price is decent too.

Purchase of Tennis RacketVery pleased with the overall customer service and knowledge about the tennis racquet I was interested in. They answered all my questions and also, helped me make decisions with type of racquet that was best for me, the string/size of handle and taping. I am very happy with my new racket and strings.

VelocityGood multi for adding control and spin without sacrificing arm friendliness. I've tried many others and none can beat it. The control and spin are still less than a hybrid gut/poli but much better than popular soft multis like NXT.

Awesome stringsI love these strings...I've been using multis for over 20 years and these are by far the best all around that I've ever used. This string has great feel, power and control and is easy on the elbow. It does work best for me at the lower end of the tension range.

One of the best multi out thereVelocity MLT is a great multi. Use it as full bed or in a hybrid, provides softer bed either way. In a hybrid, this is the only string that didn't shred while stringing with very sharp poly like spiky black shark or diadem solstice. If you have elbow issues, I recommend using this string in full bed and if you want to blend it, blend it with circular poly. Great alternative to natural gut, NXT, etc. due to the price point.

Comments: I am recovering from tennis elbow brought on by a new super-stiff Prince racquet. I then tested a lot of racquets and settled on the Head Gravity MP with a little added weight in the handle. The test racquet came with Head PPS, which was surprisingly fun, but I still tried out some of my other go-to synthetic guts and multifilaments. I saw the Velocity MLT reviews and tried it out. It was great! Loses a bit of tension at first, but this combination is way arm friendly. A tad stiffer in feel than other similar choices, but my top game is quickly returning. Control serves, good top spin, control on depth, etc. Don't quite get as much out of my otherwise wicked backhand slices, but enough to cause opponents to think. Elbow problems almost gone and quickly fading. Great combo for elbow issues, but also not a compromise. Thank you, Head. Thank you to the reviewers recommending this string. I'm on a good thing, and sticking to it.

Comments: I recently tried Velocity MLT 16 on my Babolat Pure Drive 107 racquet. It has one of the best tension retention and feel among multi strings I've hit with. After several hours of play, the string movement is almost none. In my experience, it is better than Wilson Sensation, NXT, Gamma TNT, Tecnifibre NRG2 -all of which I have tried in the same or similar racquet before. This is now my go to string. I am an NTRP 3.5 senior, singles player.

Comments: This is a great multifilament string (more control oriented) and arguably one of the best all-around strings (good control, good price, decent spin, very comfortable), but the TW review is close to accurate (I would rate it as an 85 or 86 overall). Breaks in after 20 minutes or so. It feels a little stiffer than other multifilament strings. It snaps back well initially, but does require some adjustment after it's been in a while. In my experience, it lasts long without breaking (less fraying than other multis), but does get a little 'mushy' with some loss of control, likely due to tension loss (usually a sign that it will break soon for me). I have used it as a full bed in various racquets, as well as a cross and main with polyester strings. Surprisingly, I found it worked best as a main with a smooth cross (wilson revolve) and lasted me around four weeks (~25-30 hours of play). I would recommend this to someone who wanted a very comfortable, but control-oriented string that either did not want to use a polyester string (due to sensitive elbows), or someone who wanted to hybrid it with a poly for a more comfortable string bed. I think it will last and provide good performance, especially for beginners and  intermediate players. More advanced players will likely start breaking it and lose control too quickly in a full bed. I have also found it very easy to string, as well. I'm not sure if color makes a big difference personally, but I have hit with the black, natural, blue and pink colors. Black may be a little slicker, and blue seemed to be the least slick.
From: Bill, VA, 10/9/21

Comments: I strung my Yonex EZONE DR 98 in the blue and my Yonex EZONE DR 100 in the black. I'm generally happy with the balance of power and comfort. But I find the blue to be sticky and in need of constant adjusting, while the black is slick and snaps back like many describe. I'll get black or natural in the future.
From:Mike, 4/6/21

Comments: The string is comfortable and budget-friendly. I liked using it in hybrids and as a full bed. The string plays like a polyester when freshly strung, but offers more comfort than polyester string. The thinner gauges offer more feel and spin, but lost tension faster than the 16 gauge. Great job Head for creating a great budget-friendly string.
From:Brad, 1/29/21

Comments: Really enjoyed the plush, muted feel when used as a cross string, it helped soften up the polyester mains. That said, I think I'll switch back to Gosen OG-Sheep Micro for my crosses. This string gets really sticky and does not allow the mains to snap back in place. The Velocity crosses also lost tension way quicker than the mains, and strings were all over the place after just an hour or so of hitting. Additionally, it was a pain for me to string with my older crank machine with swivel clamps. The string is very soft, elastic, and slippery; very difficult to secure when tensioned as the string has a tendency to slide through the clamps. You can increase clamp strength to stop this, but it'll dent the string pretty good since it's soft.
From:Benjamin, 11/5/20

Comments: There are far more string choices on the market, than there are racquet choices, sometimes it's hard to know what you should be looking for. Head Velocity MLT falls into the category of string which, when freshly strung, plays a lot like a stiffer polyester would, yet it is more comfortable because it's a multifilament. I have used it in many different frames, with many different string patterns, and it plays consistently across the board, no surprises, no let-downs. Works well strung either low or high in the tension range. Maintains tension reasonably well. I find it has a very short break-in period of about 20-25 minutes of hitting, then it settles in nicely performance-wise. I find the black color to be my favorite, since it plays a tad crisper than the natural version. If you are a big swinging, full polyester baseline player who is getting older and are worried about arm issues related to stiff strings, MLT would likely be a great transition string for you since it plays like a polyester when freshly strung, yet has a lot longer performance window than your typical polyester, which means less re-stringing and will be easier on your arm. Just string tighter in upper part of tension range, to keep the control aspect where you are used to if using polyesters. If you've never used a polyester string before, MLT would be a great test for you to see if you like the firmer feedback and control aspect typical to many polyesters and co-polyester strings. Of note, I have also successfully used this in hybrid form with Velocity MLT in the mains, paired with a softer cross string like Tecnifibre Multifeel or Wilson NXT, or if you are on a budget Forten Sweet 17, and the playability is nearly the same as a traditional polyester and multifilament hybrid. This setup works great if you play a lot of doubles or if you are an old-school serve and volley player. Well done Head, a very nice string indeed.
From:Geoff, 8/15/20

Comments: It is extremely arm-friendly, I feel like after two weeks it loses the power, I play four times a week.
From:Anonymous, 6/11/20

Comments: This is a very good performing multifilament string in terms of spin and control. It does lack feel and requires a short break-in period. Overall, this is a good choice for someone looking to make a transition from poly or is looking for a firmer playing, yet comfortable multifilament string.
From:Eric, 3/7/20

Comments: This string is a bit too soft for my liking and the tension loses out quickly. But it's a durable and arm friendly string for sure. I just wouldn't recommend this for tournament players.
From:Anthony, 5/15/19

Comments: I've been using this for a while in a softer hybrid set-up and then developed arm problems. It actually gets too stiff after a couple of hours, so I'll be ditching this for Isospeed Control instead.
From:Brad, 4/25/19

Comments: Very good playability and durability, not too soft but also not too powerful. Very good control. My string of choice at the moment. I am average player.
From:A, 3/24/19

Comments: I hit with a full bed of this string in a Yonex EZONE 98 (this will also be the next string in my DR 98) and am very satisfied. I currently have it strung at 51 lbs, but might go up a pound or two next time around. Due to prior wrist issues, I avoid poly, but want as much control and spin as I can get out of a multi. I previously used NXT Control and Tecnifibre Multifeel at various tensions in the low-to-mid 50s. For me, Velocity MLT is the winner of the three because I personally like the feel and slightly higher durability over Multifeel (which is also a string worth trying if you haven't), and I would choose it over NXT Control (which might have superior feel and is the most durable of the three) because it provides better spin. If you love poly and your arm is healthy, good for you. If you want control, spin, and comfort, Velocity MLT is certainly worth a try - not to mention pretty cheap! Dunno why TW doesn't do a playtest of this one, as it seems like it isn't so well-known.
From:Z, 3/13/19

Comments: I am a longtime fan of Head RIP Control, which is a great "control/feel" string by the way. This year I decided to experiment a bit with strings so I tried many multis. Velocity MLT provides similar qualities, but with a bit more comfort and power. It feels slightly muted at first and I had to adjust to it, but generally, I liked the added elasticity and softness of Velocity. Hitting powerful shots suddenly became easier. Great compromise between control, touch, and power. Going back to RIP Control after Velocity, it felt much more demanding and stiff.
From: KK, 10/31/18

Comments: Got this string in a demo and was blown away. I'd been using Tonic+ for three times the price and this feels so much better, like a multi and poly had a baby. Won't hit with anything else now. Diamond in the rough.
From:Storm, 10/4/18

Comments: Really surprised by how good this string is. Polys are no good for my arm so I've been testing high end multis by Tecnifibre, Gamma, Kirschbaum, Wilson etc. Then tried this at the lower price range in both the 1.25 and 1.30. I agree 100% with the comment about this being a multi that is very soft on the arm but plays like a poly. It's all in the coating over the multi strand fibres, which kills vibration (only time I've not needed a dampener), a load of power at 48lbs, but all the spin of a poly because the coating allows the strings to catapult the ball and return to position. Very consistent stringbed too unlike many multis, and an enlarged sweetspot. I was put off by the comparatively cheap prioce at first ("it can't be that good"), but trust me, this is a seriously good modern multi. Great to have it available in black and natural. The 1.30 unsurprisingly bring a bit more control than the 1.25. Tested in Yonex Ezone DR98.
From:Louis, 9/20/18

Comments: I play-tested a Head MicroGEL Radical Midplus (18x20) from TW with the Velocity 16g originally strung at 55lbs or 56lbs. The racquet didn't fit my game (ultimately too low of launch angle) but the string impressed me some. The playability was very consistent throughout the week long play-test, which is one of the things I look for in a string. That means I could also take a bigger rip at the ball (bottom-bevel eastern forehand to produce some spin/one-handed backhand) and the strings would stay in place. I also was waiting for the string to change its nature, so to speak (get stiffer, spongy, etc.), but it never did. From this observation, I expect its playability duration to be notable as well. I currently have the 17g version in the mains, Wilson NXT in the crosses, both at 55lbs, and the playability duration as well as the playability consistency has been impressive for weeks (after the typical initial tension drop from stringing). FYI, I'm not a string breaker, so I can't comment on durability to heavy spin. However, heavier spin players may like this as a cross string to soften the string bed some. Know it's not the softest string, so I wouldn't recommend it to someone who likes a very soft feel like Alpha Gut 2000 or NXT. It still has a softness to it, and a touch of feel/ball-connectedness, but more on the crisper, slightly muted, control-oriented, medium-powered, side of multis. Although I'm still experimenting as I'm looking for some more comfort than this in a full bed, the price/performance ratio will be tough to beat for me. If you are a multi fan and want more control in a full bed or hybrid, give it a go!
From:Brandon, 9/1/18

Comments: I have tried around 15 multi strings, full bed and poly hybrids, all from the top brands. This string is in a class of it's own. I have settled on this as a main with either poly or Ashaway Monogut ZX (Zyex) crosses (depending on my tennis elbow).Bought a reel -- after 10 years the search is over!
From:Gazz, 2/8/17

Comments: Great multi that plays like a poly. So easy on the arm, almost like NRG. The power is low so swing away and watch the ball drop in. I had to check the package to make sure it was a multi. Best string out there with a low price you must try this string. Great job by Head.
From:Greg, 7/5/17

Comments: Sweet Georgia Brown this string is great. Great control and spin -- almost like a poly but so easy on the joints like butter. How can this be so good and priced below 10 bucks. Buy this today and string lower then normal and watch your game improve.
From:Frank, 6/29/17

Comments: I'm a 4.0 player and this is the best string I have used. Easy on the arm and lasts a long time. Good ball response when it hits the strings and a solid feel and hit every time. Head has done a great job with this one!
From:Patty, 5/15/17

Comments: Love this string. I use it as a cross with poly mains. Good amount of power and comfort. Doesn't feel mushy. The coating is pretty slick and gives you good snapback for spin, but once you wear through that coating it'll fray pretty fast and break so I can't comment on tension maintenance. At half the price of NXT I don't mind having to restring as often.
From:JD, 5/3/17

Comments: My favorite multi I've ever played with. So many multifilaments feel mushy yet overpowered to me, but Velocity MLT has the perfect balance of power, feel and control.
From:Bernie, 4/24/17

Comments: This is the best multi I've ever played with. Power, comfort, spin, it's all there. Also the string holds up very nicely. I normally break multis after 10 hours of play and Velocity is holding up nicely. Very little notching. The super slick coating lets the mains snap back much like a poly. I'm using a full bed at 55 pounds strung in a Wilson PS97S.
From:Alex, 4/9/17

Comments: I have tried many strings over time and this is the best ever. Power, comfort, control and feel in abundance! Good durability too, and at a very reasonable price. I hope it doesn't get discontinued too soon, but I'm going to stock up just in case. This is the string I've been searching for. Highly recommmended.
From:Chris, 1/17

Comments: This is an awesome string. I had it on my Head Graphene XT Prestige MP. First time I had it a bit tight at 54 lbs for my liking, but once I played with it for a bit, the tension dropped some (not massively) and it was perfect. The second time, I dropped the tension to 51 lbs and it was perfect as soon as it came off the machine. It's nice and soft, great for TE sufferers. However, still had plenty of feel and touch. Power and spin was there when I needed it too. Very little string movement too. Highly recommend it.
From:Cam, 3/16

Comments: Velocity is one of the top multifilament strings for spin, durability, and comfort. I highly recommend Velocity to the people who play with expensive multifilament strings such as X-1 Biphase, Xcel, or NXT. Its spin and durability are better than them and its price is only less than $10.
