Updated with a softer feel and new frame geometry for 2023

With its redesigned beam and softer feel, the 2023 VCORE 98 continues its reign as one of the game's most well-built player's racquets. Like previous versions, this is a speedy spin monster with great ball feedback. Offering easier power than the VCORE 95, the VCORE 98 gives you the benefit of a larger margin of error without sacrificing the precision that experienced players crave. It's also extremely fast, making it great for cranking winners on the run or reacting quickly at net. For 2023 Yonex overhauls the ISOMETRIC head shape by creating an even roomier, more luxurious hitting zone in the upper hoop. The payoff is a more forgiving and stable hitting experience, with an expanded spin window and juicier levels of power. Yonex has also recontoured the VCORE shaft and made slight tweaks to the beam throughout the frame. Other new features include SIF Grommets, which deploys a silicone oil infusion to reduce the friction between the string and grommet. The upshot is greater string movement for increased snapback and more vicious ball rotation. Yonex has also lowered the RA, giving this stick an even more buttery feel at impact. Like the previous generation, this racquet benefits from 2G-NAMD FlexForce Graphite in the upper shaft and lower hoop, enabling the racquet to flex optimally through impact. Ultimately, this redesigned VCORE 98 checks all the right boxes. Experienced players looking for spin, precision and feel should give this one a very serious look.

Works for me!Had used the Wilson Pro Staff 97 for years, but due to non-tennis related elbow issues, I had to turn down the racquet stiffness a bit. So, I demoed then bought the VCore 98 2023. I'm a 4.5 player and I use NXT 17 strung at 52 pounds. Love the racquet. It's solid from the baseline with plenty of spin and power. I'm not feeling the same pop with volleys, but with some small technical adjustments it's quite good. I can hit 500-700 balls in an hour and the elbow feels fine.

Spin MonsterJust received the Vcore 98 strung with Prince synthetic gut in a 17 gauge yellow. Yes, Prince. Took it out for a hit. Solid racquet. No elbow pain. Amazing topspin with my normal stroke. Everything was spinning into the court. The faster I swung, the more it would spin. My other racquet would fly out of the court. Volleys were solid and precise. Oddly enough, my serves were not as good. Didn't feel as whippy as my previous one but with more reps, I'm sure I'll dial it in. Best racquet out there.

UnrealHow did Yonex do this? What a weapon! I NEVER give anything 5 stars, so this is a first. When paired with your choice of poly, this racquet offers an unreal amount of spin and control, with above average feel, and manageable power. Maneuverable and versatile. Great service racquet! I'm a club level 3.5 player, and this is the best racquet I've ever used. Do you enjoy watching opponents let a deep ball go because they think it is going out, only to have the ball drop and hit the line? Get used to that happening with this racquet. Drop what you are doing and buy this.

Yonex VCORE 98Soft and muted feel. Big sweet spot, but as might be expected, not quite as powerful as racquets with a stiffer RA. Good control racquet. Adding four to six grams of lead at nine and three o'clock should bring the swingweight up into the low to mid 320's without much impact on the overall balance.

Quick and solid racquetI recently switched from the Vcore Pro 97H to the Vcore 98 and am loving the racquet! I’m a 4.0 player and really enjoyed the plow through and stability of the Vcore Pro 97H but felt I needed a little more maneuverability so I switched to the lighter VCore 98 (with Polytour Rev at 52#). The racquet is super quick in the air, rock solid on ground strokes, and allows me to hit with a ton of spin. I use a one handed backhand and feel I get to the ball with more ease with this racquet. On serves, I feel like I can get over the ball and give a bit more topspin. I haven’t noticed any arm pain. Overall really happy with the racquet!

Yonex VCoreAfter demoing over 9 different racquets and making my final decision between the VCore 98 and 100 I purchased the 98. I'm a 4.0-4.5 player with a ton of top spin in my late 50's (ugh) I had my stringer put in the same string I used on my "retired" racquet and am thankful I only purchased 1 racquet this time. The racquet is too head heavy for me...I don't know why I couldn't tell this while demoing. maybe the string that came in the demo racquet had something to do with that, but I just wasn't hitting my shots and I feel I wasn't as consistent and confident with this racquet and actually lost a club tournament that I had won for 8+ consistent years in a row. I have now retired the new VCore and am back with my old Head Radical.

The best racket I have ever ownedThe Yonex VCORE 98 2023 is the best racquet I have ever owned. The racquet is strung with Yonex PolyTour PRO 17 gauge strings at 51 lbs. I currently own a Wilson Pro Staff 97 v14, Babolat Pure Aero 2023, Head Extreme MP 2022, Solinco Whiteout 305 18x20. All are wonderful racquets and all are strung up with Solinco Hyper-G Soft 17 gauge polyester strings. I do not know how Yonex achieved this, but this racquet has the lowest RA of 62 and yet plays more crisp without being harsh than the firmer Babolat Pure Aero and Head Extreme MP. This VCORE 98 is an excellent racquet for every facet of the game, Serves, Volleys, shots from the baseline, drop shots, slices. This racket is a must to demo and then to own.

Vcore 98The Vcore 98 is an interesting frame. It effectively blends the spin and power of something like a Pure Aero with the balance and control of more traditional players frames. It’s got a headlight balance, which allows for maximum racket head speed as well as quick reflex shots at net. For me, someone who has a very whippy and heavy topspin forehand, the headlight balance and sweet spot towards the upper portion of the hoop is a very good combination. If you’ve got the racket head speed, you can dial up some very heavy ground strikes with this frame. It’s also stable and quick, which is great for return of serve. The frame also has good stability and a nice flexible feeling with great ball pocketing. The relatively, for these days, thin beam aids in the aerodynamic feel of the frame. Overall, this is exactly what I was looking for as someone who grew up playing with players frames as a junior and adult. I’ve paired mine with Cyclone 17 at 52 lbs, and it’s been fantastic. I’m an average 4.5 level player , with a topspin heavy game with a 2HBH. Would definitely recommend a demo.

Wonderfully balanced racquetAn exceptional all-around racquet for intermediate to advanced. Plow through, tons of spin, stability, power but still with a good dose of control. Fantastic for serious spin players, but also good for people wanting a little help with depth and power. Very malleable to string setup/customization as well. Very Comfortable, even when strung with a firm poly.

What a Difference!VCORE 98 is what I've been waiting for! Its quick, surprisingly stable and that added sweet spot on a 98 face is a game changer! The comfort flex level is what had me eager to try it out as other racquets I've tried, feel too harsh during and especially after play. Great feel and comfort combined with quickness, power and spin that this racquet brings is just what I needed.

Awesome UpdateI have played with the VCore 98 2021 and demo the VCore 98 2023 and VCore 100 2023. I ended up choosing the VCore 98 2023 because it had more control and the a lower launch angle which was better for my ground strokes especially my slice backhand. Now that I have played with it using my normal set-up (Solinco Confidential at 48 pounds with Advantec dampers at 3 and 9 o'clock positions), I am in love with how this feels. The feel on the racket is SO MUCH BETTER than the 2021 version. I can feel the ball pocketing so much better. I really does feel like it is an extension of my hand. I was afraid I would lose a little power with the decrease in stiffness to RA 62 from the previous version but that does not seem to be the case. I actually feel like I am getting more power from my groundstrokes than the 2021 version and my serve and volleys are about the same. I also think the spin is slightly better in the 2023 version. I originally switched from a Babolat Pure Drive 2018 (heavier version) due to a wrist injury because it was too stiff. I did research and settled on the VCore after the strong recommendation from Harry at Tennis Spin as it was his Racquet of the Year in 2021. I have not had any trouble with my wrist with the VCore. I really liked the 2021 version but I LOVE this update! I am a 4.5+ all court player (previously more of a serve and volleyer in high school). I highly recommend the VCore 98 2023.

Excellent UpgradeExcellent upgrade to the previous version. I strung it up with Hyper-G at 53 lbs and love the feel and power this racquet delivers. I hit a heavy ball and haven't missed a beat since changing to this stick. With the added flexibility I have a lot more feel and touch around the net. Surprisingly didn't really lose any pace on my serve. In fact, I feel a little more connected to my serve than I did with the previous version.

Prefer the Previous VersionI'll give Yonex credit, their updates are substantial. I have been playing with the previous version for 2 years at a 4.0-4.5 level. I found that racquet very easy to hit with good power and spin. The one knock is balls may fly on occasion. This racquet may provide slightly better control and ball pocketing than the previous version, but I experienced a significant loss in power and it felt overly muted. If you demo this racquet and have a similar experience, see if you can get a hold of the '21 model, version 6. This version received a lot of accolades.

Best Racquet UpdateAs a previous Wilson racquet user switching to this update, let me just say Yonex did an astounding job on this update to the VCOREs. These frames are so well balanced between the tremendous amount of power it has, the crazy spin potential, and the control it offers. Spin for me was the key characteristic I was looking for, and felt lacking in the previous generation. I am a lefty who loves to take massive cuts on my forehand, and relatively flat backhand. This racquet did not disappoint at all for me in every department. Highly recommend this to players looking for that controlled spin frame without spin being sacrificed too much from that control.

Let me reiterate wow wow wowComing from VCP100 to VCP 97D to EZ98 to now dropping one of these VC98 in the bag. Just wow. This racket does it all.. power, spin, forgiving, serve monster, touch at the net, so so comfy maybe too comfy. I added a Oehms leather grip and total weight with Super Grap and Yonex dampener is 342gm. Strung with RPM Power @47/45. After the initial string break in I’m in awe of this racket.

Nice Upgrade!Coming from the 2021 VCORE 100 and demo'd the 2023 VCORE 100, 98 and the 2022 VCORE Pro 100 before deciding on this 98. They all hit well but for me the difference was the stability and control at the net. The 98 just felt solid in all respects. There's a little less power than I had but that's something I can easily adjust to and hitting fewer balls out isn't a bad thing. Happy with this one and looking forward to lots of good strokes.

Amazing racket; find the right dampener! My previous racquet was a Head 360+ Radical MP and I was looking for something with more pop and spin. My racket criteria was a 16x19, 98 sq inch racket in the 305g weight range. I demoed the new Pure Aero 98 from TW and was left unimpressed. It didn't feel like an improvement over the Radical and my elbow was also tender after hitting. I actually ordered the VCore 98 blind (TW had no demos) after reading much praise on the spin and comfort of this 7th-generation racket. I strung my racket with Poly Tour Rev 16L @ 50 lbs. Initially, I hated this racquet because I couldn't get a consistent feel off the string bed. The only thing working for me was my service. I was quite confused and tried to figure out why it felt so off. Then one day I took off the triangle Yonex dampener that I bought with it, and then it played like a completely different racket! Sure it could be mental, but I was convinced that this specific dampener wasn't fit tightly enough between the strings and made groundstrokes feel really mushy. After a few matches and practice sessions with my old O-shaped dampener, I've gotten into a good flow with this stick and have no elbow pain whatsoever. I probably could also play this racket without a dampener altogether because the frame seems to absorb vibrations a little too well. I appreciate that I could both bunt balls back when I need the extra power and swing out to apply a lot of topspin and depth. My only regret is not trying the VCore 95 but I think the 98 is probably the more logical choice for my age :)

Best Racket!I have had Babolat Pure Drives, Head, Prince, etc. I have also owned 2021 Vcore 98, 2020 deep blue Ezone, 2022 Ezone and this new update was everything I needed. It has the spin of the VCore from 2021 but lower stiffness by 4 points. I personally love the paint job. It plays very similar to the previous Vcore 2021 but less wrist stress and it’s definitely a more arm friendly spin machine. 62 stiffness rating is pretty low. Compare that to the high 60s in the other makes and models. The one major difference is that it does swing just a bit lighter than what I prefer. I’m going to mess around with some lead tape to see if I can find the right weight. The dampening is spot on. For me it’s a perfect balance of a racquet between power and spin. Just love it!

Pretty Good Just Got Even Better!Having playtested all 3 head sizes, the ‘23 VC98 is a nice balance, hedging a touch towards the control side of the spectrum. As I've stated in my review of the 100, the V6, series saw Yonex make a concerted effort in addressing vibration reduction and making VC's more “user friendly”. The results were mainly positive but to many (myself included) they became almost too muted in feel. (V.6 Countervail Pro Staff & Blade ring a Bell). With the changes in the ‘23 V.7, the line feels like it swung the pendulum back a little while improving stability and dwell time/ overall feel. The 98 in particular feels the most actualized of the 3. Players looking for that fast, spin friendly frame Wint be disappointed! The increase in swing weight pays big dividends. The 98 now feels more substantial and less “tweener”. Has power when needed and rewards you when you take faster/fuller swings. All in all, Yonex has improved on a great versatile frame. Def for intermediate to advanced level players looking for something that bridges the gap between more traditional thin/straight beam control rackets and new school sensibilities.

Vcore 98This version offers a markedly softer, more connected feel than the outgoing version while retaining all of its positive characteristics. I did have to change my string setup in this racquet. I normally play with poly tour spin in the mains and poly tour pro in the crosses. However, I felt this setup was too soft. I swapped out the poly tour pro for poly tour strike (kept the spin in the mains). I also increased the tension on both strings from 52lbs to 54lbs. String bed now plays a little firmer but still offers that connected feel with great ball pocketing.

Vcore 98 2023Wow Wow Wow. I have been playing with all Babolat racquets for about 18 years and really did not feel the need to change, but while I have been waiting for the new Pure Aero 98 to come out, I tried the new Vcore 98 and was blown away with its comfort and amount of spin. The Vcore 98 is just better in every way. I am a 60-year-old 4.5 player and thought I might be getting too old for a stick like this, but I have 2 on order and can't wait until they get in. The amount of spin is amazing but still controllable. For people with arm issues this racquet will amaze you. The spin off the serve is crazy and has doubled my net clearance. I have been playing with the demo for 4 days and I have never been this happy with a racquet. It just keeps getting better. It is strung with 16ga L @ 52.

Better than EverI've been playing with the VCore 98 2021 for the last year and half or so as a 5.0 level player. Easily my favorite racquet on the market being a more powerful and spin oriented control frame. I've loved the 2021 version, and I was nervous about the new update. Those nerves quickly turned to excitement once I saw the new cosmetic and got to hit on court. I've been testing the new 2023 frame for the last few weeks, and I can say I won't be touching my 2021 VCores again. They kept all the good features from 2021 - easy power and spin combined with a nice whippy feeling frame (maybe a tad muted). The new 2023 improves on this by providing a way more connected feel to the ball. You can really feel the ball sink into the string bed and shoot out with increased power and spin. All in all, I find this an outstanding update as they were able to add a softer more connected feel while also keeping the power and spin that makes the VCore line what it is. Incredibly impressed by Yonex's continuation of improving every generation of their racquet lines. This update is amazing, bravo Yonex!
