Overview

Prince adds another chapter to one of the game's most classic player's racquets. Named the Phantom 93P (18x20) this racquet's compact head, thin box beam and dense 18x20 string pattern deliver a near unmatched level of control. Thanks to a 12+ ounce strung weight, this update to the Phantom Pro 93P (18x20) feels wonderfully stable at impact, making it great for absorbing and redirecting pace. The signature technology of the 93P is an Anti-Torsion System which places Textreme and Twaron at 10 and 2 o'clock in the upper hoop and shaft. The payoff is a more solid and responsive feel higher in the stringbed where many advanced players make contact. This stick also packs a variable CTS Beam, which goes from 16.5mm in the shaft to 20.5mm at the tip. On groundstrokes this racquet's compact head and beefy weight can be demanding, but the reward for wielding it correctly is hard to resist (think surgical targeting and buttery feedback). Although the dense pattern and laser-like trajectory make this an obvious choice for those with flatter mechanics, advanced players should have no problem bringing the ball down effectively with spin.  At net solid preparation is rewarded with outstanding touch. There's also enough mass to redirect higher levels of pace deep into opposing territory.  On serve, players who can get this racquet moving fast will have enough directional control to target the lines with pace. Ultimately, with the second generation of the Phantom 93P (18x20), Prince keeps a good thing going. Players looking for a classic midsize player's racquet should love this one.

Prince Phantom 93P 18x20Its a great racquet for someone who is an advanced player. The swing weight can be difficult after a couple games. You can really feel the weight when serving. If you like weight and stability on your shots then don't be afraid to demo this racquet. The 18x20 pattern is really nice, keeps the balls in and I have a single backhand. The thin frame helps with that. Tennis Warehouse strung my racket with Wilson NXT 16 gauge (I asked for a hybrid). It's a bit heavy so I may try a thinner string gauge just to help the overall swing weight. Overall it is a 5 star racquet, but I didn't get the strings I asked for.

Previous Feedback

Comments: I have both the 14x18 and 18x20 models of the 93P and they are really good racquets. I have had to go through a plethora of strings to finally dial them in for myself - an old school player. I heard by numerous hitters that they play much like the old Pro Staff 85's, which I do not find true ´‹ll. As someone who played exclusively with these racq ´‹, these are not in the same league. In today's world, they are a small headed racquet which ends their similarities, in my opinion. Stringing them up with Kirschbaum Spiky Black Shark 16 @ 54 pounds makes these frames playable for me. They have a lot of power for small-headed racquets, so just be aware of what you're´‹ting.
From: Beejay, S´‹ Barbara, CA,%´‹16/2)´‹> <9´‹tQ´‹>Comments: In my honest opinion, this is how a tennis racquet ͳ‹ld play and feel. I have demoed and bought many rackets over the last few years and finally my search is over. Thank you, Prince! It reminds me of an improved Wilson Prostaff 6.0 85 (another racquet I love - as a point of reference). The best word I could think of is plush. I can get plenty of topspin, but I grew up playing in the 80s and 90s on similar type racquets so my strokes and game are suited to it. Slices are amazing with the tight string patterns and it allows for beautiful drop shots. It really shines on volleys - just a very solid feel. Pinpoint accuracy! If you are looking for a traditional players racquͳ‹x9ѳ‹ith that old school feel, this is probably your best bet. Before this, I was playing with the Dunlop CX 200 Tour 18x20 which is a great racquet, but defõ³‹ely has a much more modern feel. I prefer this one as it has a much better feel and is even more control oriented. I string it with Babolat VS Touch in the mains (55lbs) and Volkl V-Star in the ´‹sses (51lbs).

Comments: Love these. Great po´‹in upper part of stringbed, as advertised. Comfortable hitting - solid and smooth. Added .75g tungsten tape at 4 and 8 to increase twistweight. Big improvement in stability with only a marginal increase in swingweight. I use full bed of Klip Legend 18 natural gut. Love these, but I prefer the 14x18 version. I kept these anyways as they are really nice. Also worked great strung with Volkl V-square 18, Solinco Hyper-G 20, and Tecnifibre Triax 17.

Comments: Definitely a lethal weapon if you can get used to the weight. Pinpoint accuracy and a line magnet. Depth can be a tad shorter than I'd prefer, but with consistent technique it can be achieved. I was surprised by the amount of spin I can generate from this 18x20 too! I came from a 16x18 string pattern, big switch, but I was hitting out a lot less which helped me in my club. At net I thought it would be sluggish because taking this racquet back can be demanding at times on defense at baseline. No problem at all. Maneuverability was great. Sharp put away's. Serves I found to be at first difficult to deliver with pace due to the weight of course, but after awhile of hitting and getting a feel for the racquet, I was rewarded with great placement and no sacrifice in power. I use Tecnifibre Triax 17 gauge full bed. Feel all the way. Overall I'd recommend rising intermediate players and advanced players to give it a try who want feel, control, and again pinpoint accuracy. Already winning matches for my club league!
