Overview

With the Phantom 100G, Prince adds some more control and feel to their most traditional racquet line. Players who liked the Prince Classic Graphite 100 launched in 2014 will appreciate the obvious similarities in specs and playability. This racquet's most prominent feature is Prince's signature cross bar, which gives it extra torsional stability. It also features a lively and spin-friendly 16x18 string pattern along with the kind of all-court mobility that makes it easy to charge the net. Other features include a buttery thin CTS beam (20.5-18.5-16.5) and a very arm-friendly 59RA, resulting in the kind of arm-friendly feel that is becoming increasingly rare amongst today's ever stiffer racquets. The signature technology is an Anti-Torque System (ATS) which combines Textreme and Twaron in both the shaft and at 10 and 2 o'clock in the hoop. The result is less racquet torque at impact, resulting in a more stable and powerful hitting experience. On groundstrokes the Phantom 100G delivers seductive ball feedback at impact, with mindless targeting on full swings, aided in no small part by the high spin potential. It's also very fast thanks to its sub-320 swingweight, making it great for scrambling on defense, hitting shots on the run or whipping up spin. At net the 100G comes around very fast to deliver outstanding touch. In addition to its impressive speed on reaction volleys, the 100G does a great job redirecting higher levels of pace. It will also give you the needed control to swing for power on serves, with enough spin-potential to paint the corners of the box or lay down some robust kickers. Ultimately, with this racquet, Prince has added another instant classic to the Phantom series. Intermediate and advanced players looking for a speedy player's racquet with outstanding control should add this to their demo list. If you appreciate the silky feel of flexible, thin beamed racquets, you won't need much convincing.

Demanding yet rewarding!Demanding yet rewarding racquet if you can get in position. Needs some weight in the head to help with putaway shots but the control, feel and spin capabilities are some of the best I have played with!

Brilliant player's racquetGreat racquet if you are in great shape! Racquet is very demanding but rewards you with an abundance of spin and control if you can get in position.

Old School Feel MonsterI doubt there is a racquet on the market with a thinner beam than this. It's super thin, like the old school Prince Graphite 120. It's not powerful and requires a full, aggressive swing to generate pace. It has fantastic feel and precision. It feels light, wonderfully maneuverable and has great plow through. Access to spin is very good. I did not have any difficulty generating pop on my serve, and I love it at the net because of its great feel. My biggest takeaway thus far is the level of accuracy I feel using this racquet. It has opened up the court tremendously for me allowing me to generate better angles and variety of depth. My drop shots are better, too. I played the Prince Michael Chang LB for over 25 years! The Phantom 100g probably has a little less power than the Chang, but it’s a much more refined and maneuverable frame. If you're looking for a super powerful frame, this is not the racquet for you. If you're a full swinging, all-court player who likes generating angles, moving forward, and old-school styling, the 100g is definitely worth a test drive.

Superb Feeling Players StickArguably the best feeling racquet I've ever hit with. The buttery smooth feel at contact, with awesome stability are the highlights here. I suggest stringing it lower, I use a poly and multi hybrid strung mid 40s on the poly and upper 40s on the multi and it provides ample power. This is not your "easy" thick framed stiff racquet - it rewards sound mechanics and good footwork. Serving is a dream strung lower with the thin beam and open string pattern. I have to disagree with the TW play testers consensus on it being too low powered, simply use a hybrid as mentioned or full multi set up strung a little lower and it is more than fine. I think these are an upgrade to the original graphite 100s due to their out of the box stability and feel.I added a little weight at 10 and 2 to add even more plow and stability to weight just around 12 oz. For those afraid of the more traditional sticks and think they need a heavily endorsed frame that the pros don't even use, I highly suggest looking at Prince and the Phantom line up for the best feeling frames that not only feel great, but force you to develop sound mechanics! I am a 4.0 player.

Great racketI have been using the Phantom 100G for 9 months now and I love it. I always use a similar set-up: 350 grams, a balance of 31 cm and Head Velocity MLT 16G strung at 22KG. Great comfort, control, spin and enough power for my powerful strokes. I used dozens of Prince racquets before and this is one of my favorites. The last model I had was the Textreme Tour 100P which is quite similar to the 100G.

Where's The Pop?Had several racquets out for demo last night with this one among them, and had read the power was underwhelming. That's putting it very mildly. The lack of power makes you feel like you're playing in quicksand with this Phantom, and other qualities don't make up for it, the feel being a little harsher than I expected. Tried it stock and also with a little weight added at the top, and neither arrangement was very satisfying. I had tried the 107 version of this frame some time ago, and that one felt like it would be much more playable than the 100.

Comments: Nice frame, but you'll need to weight it up a bit. Strung it with Tourna Blue Rough 16ga at about 45lbs. You will need to add some weight to the frame if you hit against a big or heavy spin ball at all. In my experience, without lead tape, it does kinda get pushed around when you're on the receiving end of big serves or heavy ground strokes. I put about 4" of 1/8" lead tape at 12:00 and another 4" of 1/2" lead tape in the throat. Now it feels much better, gives me plenty of power on serves and never gets pushed around on anything. I'm at about 11.75 oz on both of them. In my opinion, heavy is good. I bought two of these and I'm about to purchase a third one so I can try some 18 and 19ga string without worrying about breaking them all at once. I'm a 65 year old 4.5 male player.

Comments: I am a 3.5, but have played as high as a 5.0 and national tournaments from age 50-60. I string my racquet at 45 pounds with a solid-core multifilament for daily use, and multifilament for tournament play. The Phantom 100G has touch, control, spin and power. Since I started to have shoulder problems 3 years ago, the Phantom has helped me increase spin and power on the serve. Drop shots come with ease, and the accuracy on the lobs are much better. The maneuverability on the volleys has improved for me, as well.

Comments: 54 year old with more than 20 years using original POG since the beginning in high school. Most recent racquet was the Textreme Tour 100. It was a fine racquet, but I haven't been able to get comfortable with a wider frame. Not fully believing the low power comments, I strung the 100G with a full polyester and was not impressed. I had the same spin and power issue that Jim mentioned. I placed four 4 inch TW tungsten strips at 3 and 9 then 10 and 2 o'clock with full multifilament at 54 pounds. Significant improvement. I agree with Joel that 10 and 2 o'clock is the better location. I have been a full polyester user for years. Currently using a polyester and synthetic gut hybrid. It seems to provide good comfort, spin, and adequate power. I'll probably call it good here and not go back to a full polyester. Not wanting the 107G, I think this set up gets me close to the feel of the old POG days minus the weight.

Comments: I am loving my new Prince Phantom 100G! It has outstanding feel, is stable on slices and volleys, and is arm-friendly enough that I have been able to go back to a full polyester setup instead of the hybrid I had been using. While some have said it lacks power, which is true compared to other frames, I have found that it allows me to really hit out on the ball without losing any control.

Comments: The flexible frame is great for my chronic elbow. The reviews are correct about it being low powered. I was about to give up on using it as I could not create any spin or speed until I put in a 18 gauge synthetic gut at under 40 pounds tension. Then I had good pace, spin, and feel. The weight and balance are great for my all-court game as a former open level player now playing senior events.

Comments: I am a Phantom 100P user, Prince Original Graphite 100 before that, and Prince Original Graphite 93 before that. Most recently I've been playing lots with an ancient precision mono. Safe to say I am a Prince fanboy. I had hoped this frame would combine all of my favorite traits of these racquet lines such as spin, comfort, maneuverability, stability, but it doesn't exactly deliver. The feel is super flexible and comfortable, decent control, stability is fine, but power is, what power? This racquet has none. I have also experienced a high launch angle mentioned in the TW review, but I am not sure if this is due to a four sided string, Ultra Cable 17, which I am also trying out for the first time. I might play with different string and tungsten setups, but I am bit turned off and disappointed by this racquet to be honest. I am going to try the 107G which seems be getting much more love. I would be remiss if I did not mention the excellent black cosmetic. Any chips in the black topcoat reveal a black base coat underneath, which makes the chips practically invisible.

Comments: Great racquet, but no power at all, so I put some lead at 2 and 10 o'clock and it is perfect. Great access to spin, very easy to swing, and soft for my arm.
